We Asked College Coaches: Who was the most important influencer in your life growing up?

Posted by osbstaff | 12 May 2017 | Character

“Growing up, who was the most influential person in your life, outside of your family?”

We gave them unlimited choices to name names or pick from our menu of: coach, teammate, clergy member, teacher, friend, or any other answer they had.

Sixty-five percent said it was a coach who had the biggest impact on them as a kid.

Coaches, your voice and your actions, indeed how you think, matters a lot to the people you work with on the field. Coaching goes way beyond tactics and strategies. Pay attention to the character skills you’ll see defined in our Competitive Character Glossary, think about how you use them in your words, thoughts, and actions. By being intentional in how you interact with your players you’ll have a better chance of having a strong positive impact.

In addition to shaping the skills and character of your players, think about your own strengths and skills and sharpen those to become an even better, and bigger, positive influence on those you work with.
